In Suffolk County, there are a number of courts that hear traffic tickets, depending on where you received the ticket. Most Suffolk County Traffic Tickets are returnable to the Suffolk County Traffic & Parking Violations Agency located in the H. Lee Dennison Bldg. 100 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, NY. Also known as the SCTPVA, this court replaced the former Suffolk County Traffic Violations Bureau ( TVB) in 2013. Tickets returnable to the SCTPVA are generally white or yellow. Pink tickets received in Suffolk County are usually returnable to the First District Court in Central Islip.

If you have received a misdemeanor charge along with your traffic ticket(s) such as driving with a suspended license, revoked registration, or reckless driving you will be directed to appear at either the Suffolk County District Court, 400 Carleton Avenue, Central Islip, NY or to one of the local Town, Village or Justice Courts throughout Suffolk County. The location the tickets are received will determine the court the tickets are returnable to.

If you have received a pink ticket returnable to the Suffolk County First District Court, you will be given a return date listed on the bottom of the ticket. On the return date you will be required to appear before a Criminal Court Judge and be arraigned on the charges. At arraignment the judge will formally advise you what you have been charge with and then will decide whether to set bail or release you on your own recognizance. If you fail to appear for your arraignment, the tickets will be scoffed, and eventually will lead to a suspension of your driver's license. A warrant for your arrest may also be issued for failure to appear on your court date.

Suffolk County Village and Justice Courts

There are a number of local town, village and justice courts throughout Suffolk County that handle traffic ticket cases as well as misdemeanor charges. Each court has its own way in which it deals with its traffic ticket calendar and its own nuances. Consequently, the court the ticket is being heard in will determine the way in which we would proceed on your case. In some of the courts there is a window of opportunity in which an attorney may be able to get a ticket dismissed outright.

There are certain formal requests that can be made to the court with regard to traffic tickets, and depending on the response, or lack thereof, it is possible that a motion or application to dismiss may be warranted. This request however must be made within the time allotted by statute. If the deadline is missed, you will precluded from making certain applications and motions to dismiss.
